Early Life and Education
Clarence Thomas was born on June 23, 1948, in Pin Point, Georgia. He grew up in poverty and attended Holy Cross College and Yale Law School.
Career
Thomas began his career as a lawyer for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He later served as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Supreme Court Justice
In 1991, President George H.W. Bush nominated Thomas to the Supreme Court. His nomination was controversial due to allegations of sexual harassment by Anita Hill.
Despite the controversy, Thomas was confirmed by the Senate and has served on the Court since 1991. He is known for his conservativelibertarian leanings and has often dissented from the Court's majority opinions.
Recent Dissent
On June 21, 2024, Thomas dissented in a ruling that upheld a law banning domestic abusers from possessing firearms. He argued that the law violated the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
