Supported by Philippe Croizon, 65 swimmers will leave from Noirmoutier and join Pornic
A sporting and human challenge
On September 10 and 11, 2023, 65 swimmers will take on a sporting and human challenge by swimming the 42 kilometers that separate the island of Noirmoutier from Pornic on the mainland. This event is organized by the association "Les Nageurs du Coeur" and supported by the famous swimmer Philippe Croizon.
The challenge will take place over two days, with swimmers covering 6 kilometers on the first day and 36 kilometers on the second day. The route will take them along the Vendée coast, passing through the towns of Barbâtre, L'Épine, Les Sables-d'Olonne, and Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie.
A commitment to the fight against drowning
The "Les Nageurs du Coeur" association was founded in 2015 by Philippe Croizon, a quadruple amputee who became the first person to cross the English Channel by swimming. The association's mission is to raise awareness about the dangers of drowning and to promote water safety.
The "Noirmoutier-Pornic" swim is one of the association's flagship events. It aims to raise funds for the association's actions and to promote the fight against drowning.
A message of hope
Philippe Croizon, who will be present at the start of the swim, said: "This event is a message of hope. It shows that anything is possible, even for people with disabilities. I am very proud to support these swimmers who are taking on this challenge for a good cause."
The "Noirmoutier-Pornic" swim is also an opportunity to highlight the importance of water safety. According to the World Health Organization, drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in children under the age of 5. By raising awareness of this issue, the "Les Nageurs du Coeur" association hopes to help prevent drownings.
